CNA Exam Format

CNA knowledge and skills format notes with state/provider variation.

CNA exam format depends on the state and testing provider. Many candidates prepare for a written or oral knowledge exam plus a separate practical skills evaluation. For NNAAP/Credentia where applicable, the knowledge exam is commonly described as 70 questions in 2 hours, with 60 scored and 10 pretest questions in the revised outline.

Do not treat that as a universal national rule. Always check the candidate handbook for your state or provider. The skills evaluation is separate and may require demonstration of selected tasks under observation.

Use the CNA Practice Test for knowledge review, the written knowledge exam page for topics, and the skills test page for practical preparation.
